Jacksonville State's football program took it on the chin in the boardrooms in Indianapolis and will take a public relations smack in the gut all season due to its poor showing in the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate contest.

No matter how well the Jacksonville State football team does this fall - and preseason projections have the Gamecocks among the top 15 teams in the country - it's season will end after its Nov. 21 game with Eastern Kentucky.

CHARLEY PELL GOLF TOURNEY INFO

The annual Charley Pell Golf Tournament date has changed to October 2nd.... following are details:
Place: Anniston Country Club
Shot gun start: 1:00 pm
Box lunch provided - 12:00 noon
Carts furnished, coaching shirt and balls given
Prime rib dinner after tournament
Free beer during tournament
Cost: $150 per golfer (all of above); $100 for non-golfer (receives evening dinner)
Auction following dinner conducted by Jack White
Hole sponsorship $150 each
The entire Victoria Inn has been reserved for the Reunion that weekend, plus golfers if space is available.

GAMECOCKS SCHEDULE DID THEIR 'D' NO FAVORS

Jacksonville State unveiled its most ambitious and lucrative football schedule ever on Thursday [2/12], and it will test the Gamecocks' defense right from the start.

The Gamecocks open their 2009 season at Georgia Tech and then play Florida State — the top two offenses in the Atlantic Coast Conference last year.

JSU SET TO PLAY FLORIDA IN 2012

Jacksonville State stands to earn the largest one-game payday in the history of its athletic program after signing to play a football game with reigning national champion Florida in 2012.

JACKSONVILLE STATE GETS BALL ROLLING ON STADIUM EXPANSION; I-A FOOTBALL STILL ON HOLD

The Jacksonville State University board of trustees on Monday set in motion a plan to expand Paul Snow Stadium to 21,000 seats with a three-story skybox/pressbox combination atop four stories of student housing.

The board voted to have Montgomery architectural firm McKee and Associates - the same company that designed Troy's stadium expansion - prepare drawings & documents to be used for bidding the contract.
