Jacksonville State solidified its claim to be included in the NCAA playoff conversation Saturday with a 26-21 victory against No. 18 Tennessee State in its final regular season game of the year.

The strong-armed quarterback for the Jacksonville State Gamecocks has a well- publicized background as the most valuable player of the SEC Championship Game while he was at Louisiana State. His troubles off the field that led to his dismissal from LSU last spring have been even more high profile.
But, even if it's only to one young fan, he's a football hero.

JACKSONVILLE STATE GETS BALL ROLLING ON STADIUM EXPANSION; I-A FOOTBALL STILL ON HOLD

The Jacksonville State University board of trustees on Monday set in motion a plan to expand Paul Snow Stadium to 21,000 seats with a three-story skybox/pressbox combination atop four stories of student housing.
The board voted to have Montgomery architectural firm McKee and Associates - the same company that designed Troy's stadium expansion - prepare drawings & documents to be used for bidding the contract.

Gamecocks must still fill several non-OVC dates
For the next four years at least, Jacksonville State should have no excuse to repeat the fiasco that cost it a big-money football game with Mississippi State.
The Ohio Valley Conference mapped out its conference football schedule through 2011 at its recent spring meetings, meaning the Gamecocks - or any other team in the league - will know without a doubt when OVC games are scheduled.
